Step 1 – Keyword Research 🔍
You need to find and decide on the best keywords to try and rank your website for and it’s often advised to focus on quality rather than quantity. This means focusing on longer decision based phrases rather than more generic TOF ones but if you can implement a range of keywords into your strategy that is best.
Blog posts & other pages can drive really good top of funnel traffic if you rank them on Google well enough.
Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush + Ubersuggest are some tools you can use.
Step 2 – Foundations 🏡
Run your website through SEMrush and Google Search Console to find a list of technical issues to fix on your website. It’s crucial your website is in a good place from a technical SEO point of view.
Even a few 404 page can cause major harm to your SEO efforts. You want to make sure your site is then indexed, crawlable and actually on Google (you can do/check this on Google Search Console).
Technical SEO typically won’t have a huge impact on your SEO if the essentials are in place but it’s best to keep on top of it.
Step 3 – On-page SEO ✏️
Simply optimise your website pages around the keywords you want to target. You might have 1 target page (typically your homepage) or loads!
The meta data, headings and text on the page ideally want to reflect the keywords you are targeting without being spammy or effecting user experience.
If you a struggling to add SEO content or headings because of the page structure or branding then add it lower down the page!
Step 4 – Off-page ⛓
This is what will really drive your SEO rankings higher if you are wanting to push them into positions 1-3 on Google.
Off-page SEO can include 👇🏽
- Backlinks (getting links from other websites)
- Citations (brand mentions / company info listing / directories)
- Reviews (google / other platforms)
- Social signals
Some easy ways to build links can be by checking your competitor backlink profiles (use SEMrush for this / if you want us to do this for you send their URL’s over!)
Directories are also an easy way to build citation and links.
