What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things between pages and between visits, such as whether you are logged in or what you chose the last time you were asked about cookies.

Similar technologies do the same job by other means, including pixels, tags, local storage and software development kits. Where this policy says cookies, it covers those too.

How we ask for consent

When you first arrive, a banner asks which categories of cookies you are happy with. Only strictly necessary cookies are set before you choose. Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories is set unless you accept them.

You can accept all, reject all except the necessary ones, or choose category by category. Your choice is recorded so we do not ask again on every page.

The categories we use

Strictly necessary

These make the site work: page delivery, security, load balancing and remembering your cookie choice. They cannot be switched off through the banner and, under UK and EU rules, do not require consent. You can still block them in your browser, accepting that parts of the site may then fail.

Preferences

These remember choices you have made, so the site behaves consistently on your next visit. They are optional.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, how people arrive, and where they give up. This is reporting in aggregate, and we do not use it to identify you personally. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept the analytics category.

Marketing

We use Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing, and the Meta pixel for Facebook and Instagram, so we can measure which of our own adverts lead to enquiries and, in some cases, show adverts to people who have visited the site. These are only set if you accept the marketing category. If you do not, our ads may still appear, but they will be less relevant.

How long cookies last

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. As a general guide, and subject to the providers changing their own settings: the Google Analytics identifier typically lasts up to 2 years, Google Ads and Meta pixel cookies up to 90 days, and the record of your cookie choice up to 12 months, after which we ask you again.

Third parties

Some cookies are set by Google and Meta rather than by us, and their use of the data is governed by their own policies. We do not control how long they retain it or what else they do with it, so it is worth reading their privacy and cookie notices directly. Embedded content, such as a video player or a map, may also set its own cookies when you interact with it.

Changing your preferences

You can reopen the cookie preference settings at any time from the link in the footer of this site and change or withdraw your consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything collected while consent was in place.

You can also control cookies in your browser, which lets you block or delete them across every site you visit. The help pages for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge explain how. Google provides its own opt-out browser add-on for Analytics, and both Google and Meta offer ad settings that let you limit personalised advertising.

Your rights and how to contact us

Where cookie data counts as personal data, you have rights under UK data protection law, including the right to access it, to have it corrected or erased, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
